Samsung Black History
Creation
and the Past (January
2021)
Samsung
Black was originally created as an academy team for Cloud 7 - a legacy team for
Nashor's League (currently CWL). At first, it was known as Cloud 7 Academy but
after the tryouts for jungle and support were concluded the team ownership was
passed to me (Tekh). Then the decision was made to look for a new team name
(partially because we were stomping the "main" squad in scrims). As
Samsung (in Korea) had sister teams named White and Blue we have decided to go with
that and name our team Samsung Black to be considered an independent team but
still operating from Cloud 7 discord server. The
main roster for Nashor’s League was Jonfoble, Weebie, MonkeyBusiness, Kanze, and Tekh(Me).
We have finished the regular split second only to GAL (our main rival). In the
playoffs phase we defeated the lower-seeded team, and then a 3-2 team named
Fire in the semis. [I was appointed an admin for NL after our quarters win
as the league was collapsing and I wanted to make it play out and help it
finish]. Our final was streamed, and it took 6 hours, it was an intense
match that was going back and forth. We won Game 1, Game 3, and Game 5. We were
banning or picking enemy support champions as she was an "egirl" and
we attacked that angle playing very aggressively on botlane. That is how the
meme for the 4-man bot was created, and the min 3/4 tp's from our top and enemy
were coming. Basically, 4v4 bot fights. We were known for these. Our top laner
Jonfoble was chosen as the MVP of the finals. The prize was 60 EUR.
Struggle
and downfall - CWL Season 1
After a
successful transition to CWL from Nashor’s League – our team was the first that
registered for it as I was spending around 15-20 hours a week working on the
league.
After
scrimming and playing league games, the team could not replicate the success of
the previous regular season. Top laner Jonfoble
left near the end of the regular season due to bad team performances. We found a
new top laner that was quite different (Antonish) and was playing weakside for
us instead of being an overall player that could play anything. I would like to
mention that the weakest link of our team before Jonfoble left was Weebie that
was playing jungle and clearly had no idea what macro is and how to communicate
and fill the role that he had to do at the level of the league has rose to, due
to transition from NL to CWL. After some more league games our ADC - Kanze was
talking to me about leaving the team due to our frustration with our jungler
(Weebie) and his performances. I wanted to try and convince him to stay and
finish the regular season and playoffs - I was unsuccessful. He left the team
when around 4 games were left to play in the regular split. We tried some
available ADC's, and the decision was made (against
my will) to go with "Foxy" which was (British - the same as Weebie –
that affected the decision). We played some scrims and 2 league games (2 more
to finish split). From the start, Weebie was downplaying his bad performances (zero
macro and playing like a "pussy" - scared and seem like no mechanics
as a player whatsoever). After that, I decided to leave the team, transfer the
team, and discord ownership to Weebie to be able to finish the season under the
same name. It was a loan or lease of my IP. That is where my beef with Weebie
and his "Greef" organization comes from. Weebie during that time was
known already to be boosted in the current and previous
seasons to reach gold and then plat or diamond 1 even. As I condone any kind
of boosting that convinced me he is the person preferring to use his vast
wealth to solve problems instead of going for the root cause that was to blame.
The team had an early exit from the playoffs. And shortly after
"Greef" (REEF) was created. And the naming rights went back to me.
The story
continues – recent
events
The current
iteration of Samsung Black was revived (made from scratch) when at the start of
the year we were informed that Voracity (Mikkel) is done with competitive for the near
future (We were betting when it will happen as his performance and
professionalism were in shambles for past 6 months). Our main team Nightingale
NSG disbanded, and we left the NSG discord server. (Me and Vinnie - the ADC
that was chosen by me from tryout after CHRI did betray us and go to CCG
and inted our last 4 league games - SLE and CWL). At first, I was
looking for a team that wanted a bot duo so we could stay together - I always
put a lot of effort into choosing the right person to play with me as my
playstyle changes depending on the ability that my AD has. We did not find a
team willing to take us. I have made a discord server and announced the tryouts
for TOP, JG, and MID. For top lane we had no candidates or some that were of
questionable quality (low WR or playstyle that they were not able to support
with performance). I have decided to ask Kevin (He played for NSG Niflheim with
me before I joined the main NSG team - the reason was me wanting to play with a
better ADC which was STFU(Gormon) at the time, later CHRI that was playing top
lane in the team). I knew him as a good and stable player with good mental and
willing to play weakside for the team. So that was our choice. For the Jungle
and Midlane tryouts, we have tried out a lot of people that had some issues
with mental stability or were not suited for our playstyle. Currently, the
jungler we chose is versatile and can play supportive or carry jungler for our
team. Our mid laner can play carry AD or AP roles, perform, and call good macro
and ensure the team's stability in tense moments. Me and Vinnie (ADC) prefer
playing ultra-aggressive botlane that prefers to push enemies for mistakes and
capitalize on it and take the game from our botlane advantage. It is great for
me as I love to play engage champions and force
people to make mistakes by making them uncomfortable when laning against me.
The lane kingdom approach.
So far from
scrims we have learned that we can play any meta
and style to get a win as our champion pools are quite large and remarkably diverse.
We are completing a pool of various team comps that draw bans and are ridiculously
hard to predict based on what we can play. We would like to play around our
botlane and mid lane with varying degrees of carry the potential of them match
to match.
I am sure
our team's star will be either our Jungler or Mid laner. Our Jungler can be a
great enabler for the rest of the team or just take the game himself and force
it to close as a carry player. Our Mid laner, however, can win mid-matchup 1v1,
help the team with correct macro over voice comms, and make the game easier for
me and the jungler to call shots and what to do next.
Our
strength right now is in well-chosen players that complement our ability to
play remarkably diverse playstyles and perform correct macro in whatever game
we play.
If Mikkel
or my previous teammates come back from
"retirement" I would love to face them otherwise I do not really care
who we play - we are looking to stomp everyone and win it all.
And the
story continues today...
