SLE Playoffs so far + Stats Report
SLE Playoffs
SLE playoffs have started and after Easter break will return at a faster pace this weekend. But before that, let's look into how playoffs have played so far. We have seen 3 series and 4 teams play so far, the series has been fast-paced with back and forward action. There have been Penta kills and turbo ints, but one thing is for sure, I cannot wait for the games to return.
Good Chi Gaming - Runtime
Playoffs opened with a hyped matchup between one of the best Division 1 teams in GCG versus the division 2 powerhouse Runtime. Before the series, the main storylines were that division 2 was seen as clearly inferior to division 1 leaving Runtime with a chip on their shoulder not only to prove them but defend division 2 pride overall.
And so they did, first game might have been a bit of a nerve check for Runtime as Good Chi went fast and loose on them early game, quickly building massive leads and taking the series to 1-0, but the second game was the coming-out party for Runtime, they did pick a stronger early game and decided to do things themselves, secured first blood at first 30 sec of the game and kept the aggressiveness throughout the early game. In the mid to late game, Good Chi Gaming did show spirit as with the lead and comp that Runtime had, GCG did make it difficult to close out the game, but in the end, Runtime did prevail.
The first series in playoffs and we did get game 3, in high-pressure game Runtime decided to run it back, picking a very similar team comp that they just won a game with, Chi meanwhile adapted their build with more scaling champs, enabling their team fight powers, but one player truly took the loss personally - GCG midlaner Sovonix went on a massive killing spree securing 21 kills as Good Chi Gaming showed strong performance throughout their lanes and team fights and secured advancing in the Top bracket, eliminating Runtime to bottom bracket. Both teams after this series went into the next tournament phase feeling fine/good.
Series MVP: - Sovonix(Good Chi Gaming, Midlane) - 9,67 KPG; 12,25 KDA
Jalapeons - Curtain Call Gaming
Division 2 3rd and 4th ranked teams Jalapeons and CCG met in the bottom bracket, the play-in stage where teams did not have any second chances if they were to suffer defeat. Backstage CCG was confident in their chances telling that they simply 2-0ed them in the regular season but they are excited to see what interesting picks Jalapeons have prepared, meanwhile some of Jalapeons players were going into the series without a lot of belief in their chances to win.
Game 1 went as expected, standard play and picks from CCG lead them to win against spicy picks from Jalapeons with Pyke mid and Amumu jungle.
Game 2 were the moment fireworks started, Jalapeons called upon one of the church picks as Ivern mid was locked in, and Jalapeons took Curtain Call Gaming to the spice garden as CCG were unable to get through Ivern shields sending the series to deciding game 3.
Game 3 was an all-time SLE classic as Jalapeons midlaner Amaurotic got his hands on his signature pick - Akshan while CCG, division 2 all-star midlaner Mirage played his best champ, that is almost always permabanned - Anivia. In a back and forward clash it was the underdogs Jalapeons that took the W securing the first upset of the playoffs, eliminating CCG way faster than they would have wanted to.
Series MVP: - Krunche(Jalapeons, Toplane) - 41 kills, 19 deaths in 3 games. Many solo kills.
Runtime - Jalapeons
For the first time in these playoffs, we got to see two teams return for the second series. We got to see what will be the adaptions, innovations and how will the teams perform when the first series jitters are away and it did help Runtime much more than Jalapeons.
Before the series, Jalapeons were in high spirits, after going 0-6 in games vs top 3 d2 teams in the regular season, 2-1 play-in performance vs CCG made whispers that Jalapeons might be a playoff team more than a regular-season team, and starter a hype about miracle run. Sadly it was stopped even before a game was played as Asta the Messiah predicted them to lose 0-2(Asta has called every single series correct).
After that, the games were just a formality. Runtime did show strong play securing and Runtime toplaner Astaruh wrote an exclamation mark at the end of the series securing a Pentakill on his signature toplane Viego pick.
Series MVP: - Fraycx(Runtime, Midlane) - Only 1 death, 32.0 KDA.
